Privacy Policy
The short version: Sunmaxxing needs an account (Apple or Google sign-in) and your approximate location to find your best daily sun window. We store the minimum needed to run your streaks and ranks, we never track your location in the background, we don't run ads or analytics, and you can delete your account — and everything with it — right inside the app.
What we collect and why
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive and store your email address and name (Apple lets you hide your real email — the relay address works fine). That's your account identity; it's how your streaks, ranks, and preferences follow you across devices.
To do its one job — telling you the best time to go outside — the app also stores on our server:
- Approximate location (latitude/longitude or a city you type in) and timezone, used to fetch local weather, UV, and air quality and to compute your daily sun window. Location is read only while you use the app, at reduced (approximate) accuracy. There is no background location tracking, ever.
- Your preferences — session length, schedule, UV and weather comfort limits, notification settings, and your onboarding answers.
- Session and streak data — when you start and complete outdoor sessions, minutes, the UV index at the time, your streak, and your rank. If you choose to log optional mood and energy ratings after a session, those are stored with the session for your own progress view and nothing else.
- A push notification token, if you enable notifications, so our server can ping you when your sun window opens. Notifications are delivered via Expo's push service.
Weather lookups
Weather, UV, and air-quality forecasts come from Open-Meteo. Requests include approximate coordinates (necessarily — that's how weather works) but no account information.
Purchases and subscriptions
Payments are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. To validate your subscription and unlock the app, we use RevenueCat, which processes your app user ID, purchase history for this app, and a device identifier (Apple's identifier for vendor). This data is used solely to deliver what you purchased — not for advertising or tracking.
App updates
The app periodically checks Expo's update service (EAS Update) for bug fixes and improvements. These requests contain basic, non-identifying technical information (such as app version and platform) needed to serve the right update. See Expo's privacy policy.
What we don't do
- No background location tracking — location is used in the foreground only
- No advertising and no ad networks
- No analytics or tracking SDKs
- No selling or sharing of your data with third parties for marketing
- No health or medical data — Sunmaxxing tracks a habit, not your health, and makes no medical claims
Deleting your account
Open Settings → Delete account in the app. This permanently deletes your account and everything attached to it — profile, location, preferences, sessions, streaks, and push token — from our servers. Subscriptions are managed by Apple and should be cancelled separately in your device Settings.
Data security and retention
Your data is stored on our servers and used only to operate the app. We keep it for as long as your account exists; deleting your account removes it. API access is authenticated with short-lived signed tokens.
Children
Sunmaxxing is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update this page and the effective date above. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
